In Russia "olivye" is undoubtedly considered as the classic salad for the New Year's holiday; the second one is "seledka pod shuboi".
 
Argentina. Russian salad
Few people know, but in Argentina "Olivye" or "Ensalada rusa" (Russian salad) is considered as a classic New Year’s salad. which is prepared in every home. The only difference is the absence of sausage or other meat ingredients; the Argentines replaced them with celery and apples.
 
Finland. “Pickle” salad.
The recipe for this salad is something between "vinigret" and "seledka pod shuboi". The recipe contains: herring, salty cucumbers, beets, potatoes and onions; you can add a fresh apple for taste. All this is cut into small cubes and seasoned with mayonnaise.
 
Türkiye. Salad "Patates saladasy"
This is a potato salad in which dressing plays an important role. Potatoes are mixed with eggs and onions. The dressing consists of lemon juice, olive oil, hot pepper, salt, and sometimes a little grainy mustard.
 
Syria. Tabbouleh salad.
Tabbouleh is a classic dish of bulgur mixed with parsley leaves, tomatoes, green onions and various oriental spices. Season the salad with lemon juice with the addition of coriander and nutmeg.
 
Brazil. Pomegranate salad.
In Brazil, the pomegranate is a symbol of Christmas; it is believed that on Christmas night you need to eat 7 pomegranate seeds and put the same amount in your wallet, so the new year will bring prosperity. The classic salad consists of cucumbers and tomatoes with the addition of pomegranate seeds and herbs, as well as onions and chili peppers. Dress the salad with olive oil, lemon juice and croutons.
 
Germany. Cabbage with potato dumplings.
This dish is considered one of the most traditional for the New Year's table; it consists of sauerkraut or stewed cabbage and potato dumplings. To get potato dumplings, you need to grate boiled potatoes, add starch and melted butter with nutmeg. Divide the resulting mass into even balls and boil in boiling salted water.
 
By preparing traditional New Year's salads from different cuisines, you can diversify your holiday meal by tasting and discussing with your guests which salad is the most delicious. Although the victory will probably remain with our Russian "olivye".
